Communications Assistant

Hot or Cool Institute is a non-profit, public-interest organisation using science to support policy and advocate action commensurate with the magnitude scale and urgency of the unsustainability crises. Hot or Cool’s theory of change in tackling the poly-crisis combines three key aspects: a science-based approach that provides the evidence and clarifies the complex nature of the issues, making them accessible to decision-makers and practitioners; building alliances to increase momentum and effectiveness of identified approaches; and understanding and addressing power dynamics in society that undermine change.

We are looking for a working student or part time assistant (up to 20h/week) to support the communications work at Hot or Cool.

The Communications Assistant/working student will have the opportunity to build and strengthen their communications skills by engaging in various projects that focus on the role of societal changes and lifestyles in tackling the climate crisis. They will have access to the extensive network of organizations and experts who regularly work with Hot or Cool and will have the opportunity to further their personal and professional development.

Tasks and responsibilities 

Under the supervision and guidance of the Engagement and Communications Lead, the Assistant will perform the following tasks:

  • Maintain and update social media channels and website, including monitoring, developing, and supporting others to develop blogs, news articles, press releases and other written content
  • Support the organisation of events
  • Strengthen stakeholder engagement by supporting the development of contact and process management systems
  • Support the development and maintenance of organizational communications tools and infrastructure

 Requirements 

  • Currently enrolled or recently graduated from a degree programme in a field related to Social Sciences, Environmental Sciences, or Communications
  • Excellent writing skills and good command of the English language
  • Ability to work both individually and in teams
  • Openness to learning and drive to develop together with the team
  • A passion for clear and impactful communications, and strong skills to deliver to different stakeholder groups

 Desirable skills and competencies 

  • Experience in managing organizational (social) media accounts
  • Experience using design tools, including for creating multimedia content
  • Experience with WordPress or similar content management systems

Remuneration: working student gross salary of 15.50 Euros per hour.
